My birthday sneak peak ;)

Yesterday we went to Uconn health center in Farmington for a Nuchal Transparency test, on my 35th birthday. A test to measure the fluid in the baby's neck fold. This is used to access risk for Down's Syndrome. They also observe the nasal bone to see if it's a large size, as downs children generally have rather small nasal bones. The doctor said that everything looked great! Tiny amount of fluid and good strong nose. I also opted for a test for Spinal muscular atrophy, which is really only an issue if we both are positive for it.. So if I"m negative, the baby is too.  It was amazing to see inside there, a little pool with a sleeping baby when we looked. The little arm was up over the face. We had to wake him/her up to do the test. Not happy, can't say I blame it.. getting prodded with an ultrasound device, but then I got truly speechless.. I saw legs kicking around, arms flailing back and forth. This little person is inside me swimming around. Then of course since we woke it, cooperation was not happening.. squirming around and rolling back out to the screen. The tech needs a good flat profile of the babies head and neck. Alas, she got a good shot. We will find out blood work results later this week. Here's a sneak preview of our "cupcake".

  1. Isn't that a wonderful feeling to see her/him inside you!?
